Becoming a Mum at 40 was one of my greatest awakenings. While many of my peers were sending their kids off to college, I was learning how to change diapers and survive on very little sleep. (Let’s just say my definition of “success” in those years was a nap and a hot coffee.)

Add to that a life of moving all over Canada with my husband Kevin, renovating more than a dozen homes (most of which we only stayed in for a few years!), and you could say we’ve gotten very good at creating beauty, handing it over, and moving on to the next adventure. Some people collect stamps; we apparently collect drywall dust.

While Kevin’s work often took him on the road, my career soared at home. I rose through the ranks of leadership and sales, guiding teams of thousands, overseeing teams managing a billion in assets, and becoming known as the woman who gets things done. (I also like to think of it as my unofficial PhD in juggling: careers, family, and more than a few school bake sales I somehow signed up for.)

But nearing my departure from corporate, I realized something that stopped me in my tracks: I had been living almost entirely in my masculine energy, driving, proving, pushing, performing. The more I achieved, the more disconnected I felt from myself. It wasn’t until I chose to walk away that I opened up to a new way of leading, one that married strategy and structure with flow, intuition, energetics and feminine ease. In that space, sovereignty was born.

Now, with our son grown, Kevin and I are back on the road, following his contracts while I’ve designed a digital business that allows me to serve clients globally, with intimate in-person retreats sprinkled in. And yes, I now measure “success” as much by how much joy, freedom, and travel is in my life as by the spreadsheets.
